Design Lessons in Disassembly

We look at some of the key strategies designers can use to ensure that the products they create can be recycled more easily and incorporated into circular economy.

According to Peter Maddox, director of the UK Waste and Resources Action Programme ‘80% of the impact of a garment is decided at the design stage’.

With fewer than one per cent of garments being recycled into new clothing each year, and only 20 per cent of textiles being recycled at all the designer can play an important role in ensuring that products can be fed into circular economy.
