Higg Materials Sustainability Index
The Higg MSI which was set up by the Sustainable Apparel Coalition and is now is a useful tool which scores materials on their environmental impact from extraction or production of raw materials, through manufacture and finishing to the final fabric ready to be turned into product.
It makes it possible to see which stages in processing a fibre into fabric have what impact across five parameters: global warming; water pollution; water scarcity; resource depletion; and chemicals.
